Sunrise Diamond Fuji in the fall
The time to view the spectacular Diamond Fuji has arrived again this year.
It is late fall now. The air is getting drier and crisper, and the weather becomes more stable and clearer with no or little clouds. Also, the mountain receives more snowfall and is fully snow-capped. So, you witness the glorious 'Diamond Fuji' at its best in the winter months.
"Diamond Fuji" is the special natural phenomenon where at the moment that the sun meets with the summit of Mt. Fuji and the light of the sunrise or sunset shines from the peak for a few brief moments, making it appear as if the peak is topped with a glistening diamond.
Position and time to watch Diamond Fuji are interrelated and conditions change every day. While theoretically, it is possible to view it all year round, practically, vantage points around the area for a chance to witness this are limited.
Twice a year, in late fall and mid-winter, I can personally take advantage of the opportunities to watch sunrise Diamond Fuji from home and enjoy the occasions.
For those who have difficulty getting up very early in the cold winter morning, sunset Diamond Fuji may be the right choice. However, in my personal opinion, sunrise Diamond Fuji is much more brilliant.
Sunrise or sunset. You can view this remarkable phenomenon at its best in the winter months.
